Abstract

We investigate very simple individual based models with movement, alignment and attraction rules. They can be formulated as dimer or generalised cellular automata. We distinguish decision and averaging models. In both classes movement and alignment can be achieved quite easily. We could produce a schooling-like behaviour with the combination of movement, alignment and attraction only in averaging models. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
